Swat l-ll-l-aa-ggg-gGgg so bad :/

Can someone help me, i have huuuge lags in game and i donno where they came from...

Its runs smooth when noone at server... but... when lots of ppl and explosions and shooting happen - it start to lag! Its weird coz my pc isnt so bad and it was run better even when i had older pc... Now it takes literaly more than 20sec to just enter Options in game (first time, then it enter normaly quick)... Settings set at super-mega-low (twicked INIs) and there is no difference even at super-high :/ Donno what to do... Btw i didnt tryed reinstall yet... maybe ill do now...

Anyway, if someone explain why is that so, would be cool

If you got Nvidia graphics card try reducing the quality in it's options to minimum
I don't know if it's possible with ATI

edit: i guess since it take so long time entering options - its not about graphic... something with cache maybe?

might be virus or maybe overheating?

I'm a noob with PC's, but maybe you could re-install the game? (If you haven't already done so..)

Hey BadCharlotte, let me suggest few things you could try:
First of all, What graphic card are you using, Nvidia or ATI, might as well post your specs, just so I can know with which GFX software we are dealing with here, Forceware, or Catalyst.

Did you make any changes to your computer before those stutters* (*yes, when your FPS drops it is a stutter, not lag, lag is a net related term)? Like updating certain drivers, changes to windows settings, new hardware perhaps?

Have you tried other games? to see if they act the same as swat?

For now, I advise you to delete you SWAT4.INI, and let the game generate a new config for you, when it does, try playing a game with the default settings (do not change anything). if it still stutters, consider reinstalling your game completely, maybe certain files are corrupted.

...baddy, i played 3 years with XP, i had never problem with that kind of bug as u say, then i walked with Vista for 2 years, the problems started : I had most of the time lags bugs etc... was very very very boring. And since i passed to windows 7 around 1 year ago, no problem again, so idk if it cames from the kind of windows use. But at least, u can try to defragment your disc, and then if again the problem u can also Format ur disc with making a save of ur disck otherwhere before . (With vista i needed to format every month^^, with windows 7, no format since 1 year and all ok )

Reinstall swat didnt worked :/

Pentium Dual-Core E5200 2.5GHz
2gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT 1gb
DirectX 9.0c


GammaWing.... i dont remember what changes i made, but i noticed lag was increasing gradualy over months... first it started to take 5sec to enter options, then 10sec after time and so on.... now 24sec, its crazy ><

And i tryed other games, they runs nice n smooth...

Pan... i have this windows about 3years too and there is no problems, no viruses e.t.c. everything runs good and loads fast.... except swat :/

swat lagging like hell and other games are working just fine but it turns out it is graphic card heat problem so a cooling system just solved everything.

don't know why only swat was affected by the overheat maybe as they told me it has bad optimization

well i have same probleam with my crap laptop which overheat alot and crash maybe i also get solution from this topic

but i have 2 laptops and 1 is crap is and 1 is awesome

Alright, here are few more things you could try:
1. Go to your Nvidia control panel --> Manage 3D settings --> In global settings, make sure that: Ambient Occlusion is set to off,
Antialiasing Mode is set to off,
AntiAliasing FXAA is set to off,
Maximum Pre-Rendered frames set to either 1 or 0 (Depends on your Forceware version, also, some of the options I mention might be available only on the new 3XX forceware drivers, make sure to update yours)
Multi-Display/Mixed-GPU acceleration is set to Single display performance Mode
Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias is et to allow
Texture Filtering - Quality is set to whatever you wish (but for your specs, I'd recommend you pick Performance/High Performance)
Threaded Optimization is set to on
Triple Buffering is set to off
Vertical Sync is set to Use the 3D application settings

As for the rest of the computer, make sure you Nvidia forceware drivers are updated,
Try to download SpeedFan to check if your 9800 card is getting too hot, in that case get better cooling for it.
if you got 2 HDD's, try installing swat on a different one
Download Game Booster, try to run it before you start the game, see if it is any better.
If you don't care for pirating Swat 4 (which technically is legal, now that sierra are no longer existing), try downloading a copy from the internet (PM me if you want a good download) and see if the same problems continue with a different release.
If all else fails, Go to system restore, and try to restore your system to the last time your game worked properly.

That's all I can think of right now, try those and post some results, meanwhile, I'll try to think on other things that might work for you.

open up your PC tower and clean all the dust and crap out. Looks like an overheating problem. Same here with my laptop from time to time(need to get a cooling pad)

Since SWAT4 is an old game should not be a problem with drivers.

All the current solutions here are to treat the simptoms, but not the problem, lowering graphics, and changing settings doesent solve it because SWAT4 was running fine before.

Okk... defragment didnt work... moreover, i ran analys after this and it said i need to do defragmet... but i just did it!!! xD So i guess it might be hdd problem, coz my is very old (using more than 7years) + often there is only 1-2gb free space lol ... gonna get new 1 tomorow

Btw, today i updated video drivers and maybe (only maybe) it runs just a lil bit smoother now while tons of explosions is around (might be just less laggy server), but it still entering options for ages... also nvidia settings was already set as u said...

Might be overheating too, coz my fan on CPU is lagging and spins on very low speed (donno why), coz of that pc is crashing rarely with temperature error...

CPU = 90C
Motherboard = 154C

I reaaaaly doubt its correct stats, cant be so hot, right? Maybe just temperature sensors r broken.... im gonna open it up now to clean and see maybe i can use it as oven to cook something


What about Gamebooster......... WOW! I donno how it works, but game runs sooooo much smoother now!! Again, maybe it was super lag-free server or something... gonna try later on different ones ...however opening options time is still the same

haha ...so i opened pc and it realy was that hot, i almost burned my hand touching things inside xDD I saw my fan stoped working, i revived it somehow and now everything inside is about 50C... but no major effect on game...

now i cant imagine playing without Gamebooster, it removes almost all lags and as omega said, its just cure symptoms... root of problem is still unknown... i keep thinking on hard drive or just old windows... now waiting till monday for new hdd
